Parvez Elahi calls for boosting Pak-UK bilateral trade

LAHORE   -  Anum Qaiser, Member of the British House of Commons, and Honorary Consul General of Moldova Mian Mahmood Al Hassan called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi in his chamber here on Thursday. They discussed continuity of the democratic system in Pakistan including other issues of mutual interest and the situation in the region. They agreed to intensify public relations campaign to further strengthen Pak-UK relations.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that Pakistan had taken the initiative for peace in the region by convening an OIC conference for Afghanistan. “Now, all other countries including the United Nations should also play their role.” He also emphasised promotion of bilateral trade and said that the Overseas Pakistanis were playing a vital role in the development of the United Kingdom (UK). Anum Qaiser, Member of the British House of Commons, said that the United Kingdom appreciated Pakistan’s role in the successful holding of the OIC conference. She said that Pakistan was an emerging economic power and a beautiful and peaceful country. She further said that the tenure of Ch Parvez Elahi as Chief Minister was a golden age in the history of Punjab. The Punjab Assembly speaker apprised her of the history of the assembly, parliamentary traditions and current legislation. He said that women were given special representation in the national and provincial assemblies of Pakistan. Anum Qaiser termed the Punjab Assembly’s house and new building adorned with Quranic verses and Ahadiths regarding finality of the prophethood state-of-the-art.

Anum Qaiser and Mian Mahmood Al Hassan also lauded the establishment of Emergency Service Rescue 1122, free education up to matriculation and scholarships including other development works during the rule of Ch Parvez Elahi.

Punjab Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti and DG Parliamentary Affairs Inayatullah Luk were also present on the occasion.
