ISLAMABAD - High-powered committee constituted by Prime Minister under the chairmanship of Secretary Commerce Zafar Mamood to probe into and fix responsibility with regard LNG import scam has submitted its report to the Establishment Division for further action. The credibility of the findings of high-powered inquiry committee on LNG submitted to Establishment Division few days earlier might raise questions as the committee had completed the report without taking the version of principle dealing Officer LNG Mashal Project G.A Sabri well informed sources informed TheNation on Wednesday adding that in conformity with the honorable Supreme Courts observation in its order regarding omissions, commissions and irregularities involved in the process, the Prime Minister constituted a high-powered committee under Zafar Mamood, Secretary Commerce. When contacted GA Sabri, however, categorically declared that the committee had never called him at any stage during investigation. I was not informed officially about any committee but if it was constituted then I should have been called being a principle dealing officer of the LNG project; Sabri said adding that, however, it depends on the Committee with whom it likes to talk. Secretary Ministry of Petroleum Imtiaz Qazi while talking to TheNation confirmed that the inquiry committee on LNG had completed its proceedings and Secretary Commerce was likely to submit the findings to the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani who would check the omission and commission and irregularities involved in the process. According to procedure, after the submission of inquiry committee report, the competent authority (PM is supposed to deal with the matter in accordance with the national interest of the country. It is relevant to mention that the former Special Secretary Petroleum GA Sabri and Naeem Sharafat Project Director LNG Mashal Project in SSGCL had been dealing with LNG project. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet in its decision has scrapped the proposal to award contract to '4Gas and directed fresh bids be invited with accordance to the opinion of Law Ministry. However, the ECC vide its decisions dated 20/07/2010 inter-alia directed to first obtain views of Ministry of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs (MLJ&PA) in order to ensure that the proposals submitted by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources are in conformity with the directions of the Court.
