LAHORE/KARACHI Moonis Elahi, the son of former Punjab Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi, will arrive in Lahore on Thursday (today) to join investigations initiated by the FIA in the NICL scam. Landing in Karachi on Wednesday following the revoke of arrest warrants against him, PML-Q MPA Moonis Elahi said that he has no connection with the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam. Earlier, the FIA had put the immigration staff on alert to arrest Moonis on landing, but the situation changed as Moonis got protective bail from the Sindh High Court. He would now be warmly received by PML-Q workers at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, said a female party worker. FIA Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi said that Moonis would appear before FIA to stand grilling. Asked if the FIA had requested the UK authorities to freeze Moonis Elahis accounts, Qureshi said, Yes, the FIA has written to the UK. When contacted, Aamir Saeed, the counsel for Moonis, confirmed his client would arrive in Lahore on Thursday. He said that amount in question already has been recovered. We have five days to get interim bail from competent court. Earlier, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Yousaf Aujla on Wednesday set aside the magisterial court orders regarding initiating proceedings against Moonis Elahi to declare him a proclaimed offender in the NICL scam. The judge also set aside Moonis arrest warrants issued on January 28, 2011. The court passed these orders on a petition seeking suspension of the magisterial court orders. On Wednesday, lawyer from state side appeared before the court and submitted the record. The court after going through the record set aside the orders of the Magistrate Irfan Basra who passed the arrest warrants of Moonis Elahi on January 28 and non-bailable on February 08, 2011. According to case details, counsel for Moonis Elahi, Advocate Aamir Saeed had filed a revision petition in the court, taking plea that FIA had misguided the court and got arrest warrants of Moonis on January 28. He pointed out that since the FIA had obtained arrest warrants by misguiding the court, the subsequent proceedings of declaring Moonis as PO were void in the eye of law. Landing in Karachi, Moonis said: I am being dragged needlessly. He spoke to the media at the airport on return from Sri Lanka. Neither any of my family member is in the Punjab government nor Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is my uncle, he said to stress that he didnt have a hand in the scam. About Zafar Qureshi, the chief investigation officer in the NICL case, Moonis said one of his (Qureshis) brothers wanted to become the chief secretary of Punjab during the PML-Q government and another brother wanted to get the PML-Q ticket. His both demands were turned down which may have made him adopt such tactics, Moonis said.
