Senate committee briefed on Navy’s preparedeness

Visits various naval facilities

KARACHI  - The 13-member delegation of Senate Standing Committee on Defence undertook a detailed visit of Jinnah Naval Base of Ormarah, considered a future home port of PN Fleet.
On the occasion they were briefed about various PN developmental projects that will help achieve early commencement of sustained fleet operations on the Makran coast.
According to Public Relations Department of Pakistan (Navy), the delegation headed by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, visited facilities and installations of Pakistan Navy at Karachi and other coastal areas of the country during a three-day programme that concluded on Sunday.
They were given a comprehensive briefing on the emerging challenges in the region and Pakistan Navy's response, measures and infrastructural upgradation of Pakistan Navy. The Committee was apprised of the adversary's massive naval buildup particularly in context to acquisition of nuclear submarines, a matter of concern not only for Pakistan but also for the regional peace.
The Senate Committee was also briefed on the indigenisation programme of Pakistan Navy during their visit to Pakistan Navy Dockyard, submarine center and Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works.
The Committee was extensively briefed on the nation-building efforts along the Makran coast and PN measures aimed at socio-economic upliftment of Baloch populace along the Makran coastal belt.
During visit of Cadet College, Ormarah, the Senate Committee members were apprised of facilities being provided by Pakistan Navy to the cadets and the college's planned development so as to make it a Premier training institution on the Makran coast.
During visit of 100-bed hospital PNS DARMAAN JAH, the Committee was informed that PN is extending free medical support/facilities to the Baloch population and coastal community in particular.
The Committee was also apprised of the humanitarian assistance provided to the earthquake victims of Awaran.
During their visit to Gwadar Port, the Committee was apprised that, in line with the vision of the Naval Chief, PN is committed to provide all out support for the development and early activation of Gwadar Port.
On the occasion, the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence, Mushahid Hussain expressed satisfaction about PN's operational preparedness and nation- building efforts.
The Committee assured their full support to PN for its future plans and designs to safeguard the economic interest of Pakistan in the Indian Ocean and its impregnable maritime defence.
