The United States has announced to open its embassy in occupied Jerusalem in May this year, reported Radio Pakistan.

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert while talking to reporters in Washington said the time will coincide with Israel's 70th anniversary.

Reacting to the announcement, Nabil Abu Rdainah, a spokesman for the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said this is an unacceptable step.

He said any unilateral move will not give legitimacy to anyone and will be an obstacle to any effort to create peace in the region.

US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in last December.
