Winter chills are back

LAHORE: Different parts of the country including Lahore received rainfall of varying intensities on Saturday, bringing back chill in weather.

The rains disturbed routine life by causing inundation on portions of roads, roadsides, frequent traffic jams and power outages in urban areas.

In Lahore, the rains started last night and continued intermittently till at noon.

In Lahore, patches of clouds, light rains and winds caused a considerable decrease in temperature during the day and at nighttime, bringing back chill in weather.

Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 23 degree Celsius and 14C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 72 percent.

The wet conditions added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on important roads. Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported in various parts of the city.

According to the experts, a westerly wave is affecting northern parts of the country. Another shallow westerly wave is likely to affect western parts of the country on Sunday (evening/night).

The local meteorological department has forecast mainly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country including Lahore during the next couple of days.

However, rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Quetta, Kalat, Makran divisions and FATA during the period.
