India is speeding up arms purchase from the international market. It seems New Delhi is trying to meet some pre-set deadline for something. At the same time, President Obama has asked congress for '$708 billion for wars, meaning more than one war. US Secretary Defence Robert Gates has, meanwhile, said that Indian tolerance is now on the brim and it might be over it if there is another incident like the Mumbai attack. This seems like a warning delivered to Pakistan. Coincided with Mr Gates statement, India has started mischief on our borders, opening fire at two positions. Lets not forget what the India Army Chief Deepak Kapoor had said recently about India being able to fight Pakistan and China together. Piece together this entire jigsaw of events and statements and what do you get? We have a war on our hands, possibly even a nuclear showdown. -ZAFAR ISRAR, Karachi, January 21.
