Directs immediate steps for anti-terrorism force

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday said that terrorists destroying peace in the country deserved no mercy and would be dealt with iron hand.
Presiding over a meeting to review law and order situation, the Chief Minister directed the law-enforcement agencies to keep a vigilant eye on the miscreants.
Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah Khan, Col(Retd) Shuja Khanzada, Secretary Home, Inspector General Police and concerned officers were present.
He directed that immediate steps be taken for accelerating the process of setting up anti-terrorist force and security arrangements be tightened in the province in view of the current situation.
He directed that checking at entry and exit points of the City be intensified while a vigilant eye should be kept on miscreants.
He also directed that special checking of hotels and guest houses be carried out and effective security arrangements be made in the province at every cost. Secretary Home and Inspector General Police Punjab gave a detailed briefing to the meeting on law and order situation in the province.
Addressing the meeting, he said that elimination of terrorism and extremism was of vital importance for progress and prosperity of the country.
He said that anti-terrorism force was being established to curb the menace of terrorism while police officers were also being trained abroad.
He said that the arrangements were being made for the training of elite force on modern lines. He said that government was taking all possible steps for the protection of life and property of the citizens.
He said that modern weapons and more resources would be provided to police and it would have to perform its duties with efficiency and commitment.
He was of the view that country was passing through a critical phase and there was a need for national unity for foiling the nefarious designs of the enemy.
He said that sentiments of tolerance, harmony and brotherhood will have to be promoted for maintaining peace in the society.
