Iodine in diet

In a recent survey, it was revealed that children under 5 years of age were 45% stunted in 2013 as compared to 43.7% in 2011 and 30% underweight as compared to 31.5% in 2011. The main factor behind this success was the increased iodine usage which improved nationally and all across the country.
I request the civil society, NGOs and media of our country to work in coordinated manner with common goal to promote iodine usage in daily diet of children. There is a need to promote sustainable improvement in nutritional status of people of Pakistan by creating a strong, coordinated and vibrant civil society constituency which will support further development and wider implementation of nutritional agenda.
