LAHORE - A civil miscellaneous application yesterday was filed in the Lahore High Court against the extension given to Punjab University vice-chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran.

Dr Asmatullah filed the application through his counsel Advocate Azhar Siddique and pointed out that the extension given to Dr Kamran was discriminatory and against the law. He said search committee which was formulated for the purpose of appointing VC of different universities including Punjab University carried on their work without considering the issues raised before this court.

The petitioner stated that the search committee was conducting many interviews for the post of vice chancellors for different universities of Punjab because the posts of vice chancellors assumed to be vacant after the completion of the terms of the concerned vice chancellors.

He also said the term of incumbent VC expired on January 22. The summery further revealed that in view foregoing, it was proposed that CM may advise the governor/chancellor to assign the charge of the post of VC to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Taqi Zahid Butt, College of Engineering and Technology/Senior Most Professor of the University of the Punjab, Lahore, in exercise of powers vested in him under section 14(9) of the University of the Punjab, Lahore Act, 1973.

The Punjab governor also issued a summery on the same day in pursuance of advice of the CM and showed his pleasure to assign the look after charge of the post to Mr. Mujahid Kamran after the expiry of his current term of appointment as VC.

A notification issued by Government of Punjab Higher Education Department via a Notification No. SO(UNIV.)5-7/81-III on January 21, 2016 which confirmed the status of the Dr Mujahid Kamran as look after charge of the post of the Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab till the appointment of a regular incumbent.

Degree awarded: The Punjab University has awarded PhD degree to Sumera Batool in the subject of Communication Studies after approval of her thesis entitled “Comparative Analysis of Representation of Religious Minorities in Pakistani and Indian Print Media (1990-2010)”.

Meanwhile, Punjab University Examinations Department has issued written date sheet of BS (4 years programme) 6th semester examination 2015. Detailed date sheets are also available at PU website
