ISLAMABAD - Declining to give time to defence counsel for examining the details of supplementary reference against Nawaz Sharif, Accountability Court Islamabad judge Mohammad Bashir remarked that under the Supreme Court direction the case has to be concluded within six months.
On Tuesday, when the court took up cases against the Sharif family, Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar were present in the courtroom.
Two more prosecution witnesses record statement before the court, while the judge issued call-in notices to another two witnesses on January 30th.
Defence counsel in the case Advocate Khawaja Haris sought week’s time for study of supplementary reference filed in the Avenfield properties reference but the court earlier declined to give time on the plea that under the apex court direction these cases have to be concluded within six months.
Haris replied that the court had permitted filing of supplementary reference after four months hearing in the case and they were declined seven days time for its study.
Judge Mohammad Bashir suggested that why witnesses in the supplementary reference should not be called on the next date of hearing but later adjourned the hearing in the case till January 30 by summoning two other prosecution witnesses in the case.
Earlier, two prosecution witnesses both officers of a private bank, Ghulam Mustafa and Yasir Shabbir had recorded their statements before the court.
Another prosecution witness, Afaq Ahmad was also present in the courtroom but could not record his statement as he was yet to receive the original record from the apex court.
His statement could not be recorded on even on the last date of hearing.

After the hearing in these cases, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif left for Punjab House without talking to the media and looked quite serious when he left the courtroom.
