KARACHI - The admissions to class XI at the local colleges under the Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) will begin from 28th July, sources concerned told The Nation here on Thursday. The CAP committee has finalised all arrangements for admissions to 124 colleges in various disciplines including science, commerce, humanities, general science and home economics. The committee has decided to reduce the price of prospectus from Rs 100 to Rs 50 while admission forms will be available from 28th July to 8th August at 50 branches of Bank Al Habib Limited. Talking to The Nation, Director General Colleges Sindh, Dr Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui, said this year CAP committee had introduced some new features. He added the Director General of Colleges Sindh, (the Chairman CAP Committee), was responsible for the implementation of CAP 2009. Talking about number of seats allocated to different colleges, he said that around 99,800 seats were available for six faculties including pre-engineering, pre-medical, computer science, commerce, humanities and home economics. Out of the total seats available, 54,100 are allocated to female students while 46,300 others are reserved for male candidates. However, huge number of seats (25,550) have been allocated to the pre-engineering faculty while only 600 others are reserved for home economics, he said. The CAP Committee and its sub-committees would supervise and monitor the entire process for admission to class XI in the colleges. The admission in Government colleges in 2009 will be restricted to those who have passed their SSC/O Level/Technical Board or equivalent examination. All placements will be based on open merit. If the result of an applicant who has taken the O-Level examinations is delayed, placement will be decided on the basis of school exams marks-sheet and a surety certificate of grades from his/her respective school. However, the placement result will be withheld until submission of actual certificate(s) of the O-Level examination, he maintained.
