QUETTA - Several mud houses and crops were reportedly inundated after an under construction Damani Delay Action Dam was damaged owing to heavy downpours that lashed the area, some 17 kilometers away from Barkhan As per reports reaching here, stormy rains that started Wednesday night in Barkhan district continued for several hours that resulted in breakage of Damani Dam that reportedly caused damage to houses, crops, cattle while leaving hundreds of people homeless. However, so far no loss of life was reported. The sources said that 120 acres of land in Barkhan has been submerged owing to heavy downpours and around 15,000 people have been affected. Sources of Irrigation Department Loralai said the heavy rains in Narkot area, 14 kilometers east of District Barkhan, damaged under construction Damani Delay Action Dam ,adding, that the team has been dispatched to the area for inspection and restoration of the affected dam. 'The dam is under construction due to which it cant hold the stormy rain water and breached, Sub-divisional Officer (SDO) Barkhan Jumma Khan told this while talking to newsmen. He said that in half and hour 88 mm rain was recorded which had played havoc in the area. Talking to this scribe, Irrigation Minister Aslam Bizenjo said that 25 to 30 feet breakage in the dam caused by heavy rain ,however, it did not affect houses. 'Those houses affected in area are because of heavy rains not breach in dam, he added. Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has taken notice of breach in dam in Barkhan and directed authorities concerned for submitting report.
