The upper house of the parliament meets on Friday as President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the session at 10:00am. The Senate is likely to discuss major national issues like loadshedding, rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the aftermath of military offensive in Swat and other parts of Malakand division and dissolution of local government system. The government is likely to come under fire in today's Senate session for its inability to overcome the lingering loadshedding in the country, paralysing the life of the common man and bringing the industrial wheel to a complete halt. The government could face embarrassment with Senator Mian Raza Rabbani standing up on a point of order questioning the poor performance of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and government's failure to bring it back on track as he is well prepared to take the government to task in today's session. He may also come harsh over the rumours of privatising the WAPDA's power distribution network. Rabbani had submitted a privilege motion against the PIA officials, who, according to him, have been busy in making some departments of the national flag carrier, which mostly employ low-paid workers as autonomous. "Rabbani will definitely ask why the government is delaying the nationalisation of KESC as the private sector owner failed to deliver as promised. He will also grill the managing director of PIA for making the flying staff blue-eyed boy of the national flag carrier", sources added.
