PESHAWAR - In response to claims by Muslim Khan regarding survival of leading militants including Maulana Fazal Ullah, the NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that no one could deny the fact that they had lost their network and sanctuaries in the wake of the ongoing military action. Neither we claimed killing nor netting of any top militant commanders, Mian Iftikhar Hussain remarked in a brief telephonic conversation with TheNation on Thursday. Muslim Khan, the spokesman of Taliban militants through an audiotape Thursday claimed, that all leading militants including Maulana Fazal Ullah were alive and OK. He also threatened to attack government installations, personnel of security forces and supporters of government throughout the country. He accused the government of conducting military action against them at the behest of the United States. In fact, these elements have paved the way for implementation of US agenda with violation of February 16, 2009 agreement, was the reply of Mian Iftikhar Hussain to a question. He reminded that a number of foreign countries including the United States were unhappy with NWFP Governments efforts for resolving the crises through peaceful and political means. In this respect, he diverted attention towards the United States and other countries reservations against the February 16, 2009 peace agreement. The NWFP Information Minister maintained, We were determined to serve our own interests and for this reason, we made the foreigners unhappy over entering into an agreement with the militants. But unfortunately, none other than these Taliban had sabotaged the realistic and sincere efforts of the government, by making efforts to occupy the whole of Swat, Buner and other regions. He said that all of them should keep in mind the national interests instead of paving the way for materialising the interests of someone else. Commenting on the threats given by militants spokesman Muslim Khan, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said, The militants network has already been crippled. They cannot stay at one place but are always hunting for alternative hideouts and shelters. Earlier they were declaring head money for us (Government people) but now we have announced head money for them. He said that the government was firm in its decision of chasing terrorists till the end and for this reason it could be hard for Taliban militants to regroup or resume brutalities against the innocent and helpless people. The NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain while expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the military action in Swat, said, It not only led to dislodging the militants network but also the militants were now unable to go on patrolling and terrorizing the innocent people. Taliban from Swat had been disintegrated and now the government was in a better position to bring an end to the militants in each and every corner of the country. Answering to another question, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said, Talibans each and every act was not only against humanity but it was contrary to Islamic norms. These Taliban militants had not only indulged in massacre of innocent people but had also damaged the image of Islam, Pakistan and Pukhtoons. Such elements deserved exemplary punishment, he remarked, adding, All militants will be put to trial through Islamic courts to be established in Malakand Division very soon. It may be mentioned here that the high-ups of both civil and military institutions have reportedly claimed that Maulana Fazal Ullah, chief of Taliban in Swat, had been injured but they never confirmed either his or any other militant commanders death.
