LAHORE - The 2nd NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament began with a bang here Thursday with easy wins for Navy, PAF, NBP and Port Qasim at the National Hockey Stadium. Navy outplayed Sindh, PAF edged aside Punjab, NBP beat KESC and Port Qasim won over PIA. PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa inaugurated the championship while Punjab Hockey Association secretary Rana Mujahid, who is also organizing secretary of the tournament, represented the sponsors NBP. Five more matches will be played on Friday. Sindh vs. Army 0630am, NBP vs. PAF 0830am, HBL vs. Punjab 4pm, Navy vs. Port Qasim 0530pm and Pakistan Steel Mills vs. PIA 0530pm. Day 1 Results: Navy beat Sindh 4-1 (Full Time) 2-0 (Half Time) Navy: Sabir 27th minute (PC) and 50th minute (FG), Atiq 30th minute (PC), Abdul Manan 63rd minute (FG). Sindh: Zahid Ali 67th minute (FG). PAF beat Punjab 3-0 (Full Time) 2-0 (Half Time) PAF: Shahbaz 13th minute (FG), Kashif Yaqoob 18th minute (PC), Imran Hafeez 54th minute (PC).
