LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that only Cholistanis have the right over Cholistan and their interests will be fully safeguarded. He announced Rs 300 million for developing pastures for livestock, Rs 250 million for five model farms and Rs 100 million for solar energy projects in Cholistan. The CM made this announcement while addressing a large gathering of Cholistanis at Jamser in Cholistan, says a handout issued here Thursday. Provincial Minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chunnar, Members of National and Provincial Assemblies, Mian Balighur Rehman, Ch Saood Majeed, Mumtaz Jajja, Kazim Ali Pirzada, Chief Secretary, Provincial Secretaries and a large number of Cholistanis were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that government was implementing a comprehensive strategy for development of livestock sector in the province and negotiations were being held with a number of countries in this regard. He announced an amount of Rs 300 million for developing pastures for livestock in Cholistan and said that this step would be helpful in the socio-economic uplift of the local people. He said that five model farms would be set up in Cholistan for the development of livestock and an amount of Rs 250 million had been allocated for this purpose. He said that these model farms would be on the pattern of cooperative system. He said that with the profit of these farms, more farms would be developed in Cholistan. He said that system of mobile dispensaries would be introduced for extending medical facilities to the Cholistanis in the far-flung areas at their doorstep. He said that initially five modern mobile dispensaries would be imported for this purpose from Europe. He said that government had been utilising all available resources for the uplift of Cholistanis and 20 villages would be provided solar energy this year at a cost of Rs 100 million. The Chief Minister, on this occasion, rejected the project of corporate farming in Cholistan in the light of the views and on the spot voting of Cholistanis. He said that all development projects for the uplift of Cholistanis would be evolved with the consultation of local populace and only those projects would be approved which have the approval of the local people. He said that the trend of evolving policies in air-conditioned offices of Lahore for the development of Cholistan had been done away with and now senior officers would ensure completion of development schemes in Cholistan by their physical presence on the site. He said that as Khadim-e-Punjab, he was ready to provide all-out technical assistance for bringing a green revolution in the land of Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Fareed. The Chief Minister appreciated the free expression of views of Cholistanis on the proposed policy for the development of Cholistan and said that no one would be allowed to usurp their rights. He said that illegal occupants of land in Cholistan would be dealt with an iron hand. Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated solar energy project and inspected the electricity supply system with the unit of solar energy in Jamser. MNA Saood Majeed and MPA Mumtaz Jajja also addressed the ceremony.
