Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani said that comprehensive effective strategy is needed to control target killing incidents in Karachi adding that the government has been taking every step that could benefit the country. Talking to media on Saturday during his visit of General Hospital to inquire health of PML-N senior leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, PM Gilani said that extended tenure of COAS was an administrative matter and the government has taken this decision in the best interest of the country. He also stated that provincial government of Sindh should initiate adequate and comprehensive strategy to control target-killing incidents in Karachi adding that law enforcement agencies has also been directed to boost their inter-coordination information. Prime Minister Gilani further emphasized that PPP's government believed in the freedom of media and during the government of PPP, it had never imposed any curbs on media adding that during the regime of former dictator, he had also struggled for freedom of media. Responding to a query, he said, "I am not in favor to defend the fake degree holder politicians and HEC has been directed to accomplish its task with transparency without getting under pressure". He also said that PML-N senior leader Javed Hashmi has been improving and I pray for his early recovery from brain-hemorrhage.
