LAHORE - Depriving the Rescue 1122 officers and traffic wardens of increase in their salaries is against the interests of the province and people, says Ch Zaheer-ud-Din, Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly. He expressed these views while addressing an emergent Press conference at Assembly Secretariat at Punjab Assembly on Friday. Zaheer alleged that Khadam-e-Aala Punjab was destroying the departments of the province in opposition of former chief minister, Ch Pervaiz Elahi. He said Rescue officials save lives of the people by putting their own lives in danger but the incumbent provincial government is hell-bent on destroying the service, while the affairs of the traffic wardens were not different than the former. He said that Transparency International had acknowledged in its report of 2009 that traffic wardens service was free of corruption and masses wanted this system in all the cities of the country. He, while alleging the provincial government for posting a 'wanted person as head of the Punjab Prosecution said Pervaiz Elahi had established the department of prosecution for the provision of speedy justice. Opposition leader claimed that the provincial government had stopped perks and petrol of the patrolling police and left the people at the mercy of dacoits and criminals. Zaheer, while accusing the provincial government of making the Child Protection Bureau almost ineffective, claimed that a large number of children were becoming beggars and camel jockeys and 13,000 children were missing from Rahim Yar Khan alone. Replying to a query regarding the service extension of Army Chief, he said, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is a highly competent professional soldier and service extension is the right of Gene Kayani, as he played a highly commendable role in war against terror. Responding to another question regarding transit trade, Zaheer said that issue of Kashmir and water should be resolved first before giving a practical shape to the transit trade agreement.
