LAHORE Super Football League Title holders Islamabad United are in danger of elimination following their 0-2 defeat at the hands of Lahore Lajpaals on Sunday. With this victory, Lahore stretched their points and joined Karachi Energy and Quetta Zorawar in the semi-finals of the second edition of Super Football League (SFL) being held at Karachis Peoples Sports Complex, Mauripur Road, Lyari Town. Muhammad Qasim-led Islamabad had already completed their campaign in league format and their fate will rely on clash between Tribe FC Peshawar and Quetta Zorawar. The Peshawar team needs a simple win against Quetta to outpace Islamabad for semi-final spot. Any other result will help Islamabad and pave the way for holders to enter elimination phase. Islamabad clinched the SFL 2007 which was the first edition of the countrys inter-city football league held by the joint efforts of PFF and its sponsors. That League was held between from July 20 to September 9, and Islamabad United emerged as champions when tense, absorbing 0-0 final stretched to the nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out with Islamabad outkicking Karachi Bazigaar (now known as Karachi Energy) 4-3. With front runner Muhammad Rasool becoming leading scorer with four goals, Karachi Energy assured themselves a semi-final berth show when they took their points to 14 from seven outings. Karachi handed Quetta 1-0, Peshawar 3-1, Islamabad 2-1 and Lahore 1-0 defeats while they drew Islamabad 2-2, Peshawar 1-1. Their only defeat was against Quetta 1-2. Their eighth match will be against Lahore Lajpaals on Saturday (10 PM) - the 20th and final league encounter of 51-day event. Quetta Zorwar and Lahore Lajpaals are second and third with identical eleven points from seven matches.
