Pervez Rathore challenges his sacking as acting PEMRA chief in SC

ISLAMABAD- Acting chairman Pakistan Electronic Media & Regulatory Authority (Pemra) today challenged his removal at the Supreme Court.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on July 15 had suspended the notification for the appointment of Pervez Rathore as acting chief of Pemra. Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi of the IHC issued these directions in the hearing over contempt of court petition filed by Pemra’s private member Israr Abbasi. The petition had contended that Rathore was functioning despite the IHC’s June 9 orders.

Rathore said in his petition that he was appointed by the prime minister under the law. He claimed no violation was committed in his appointment process. He said the IHC verdict of his sacking was tantamount to interfering in PM’s authority.
He requested the Supreme Court to issue directions, declaring the IHC order null and void and restoring him on the erstwhile position.
