The government has announced the budget for the current year. In the budget the employees have been allowed 15% adhoc relief. At present, the pay of the government employees includes the Dearness Allowance, Adhoc Relief, Special Relief and Special Additional Allowance. These allowances come to more than one third of the basic pay. It is grave injustice that while calculating the pension, these adhoc allowances are not counted in pension i.e the pension is calculated on the basis of the basic pay only. The scales have not been revised for the last several years. Had the scales been revised these allowances would have been merged in the basic pay and pension could have increased. -ZIKAR E MUHAMMAD, Lahore, via e-mail, June 18.
