QUETTA - A college principal was shot dead in Quetta on Tuesday morning. According to police, the principal of Balochistan College of Commerce Professor Amanat Ali Baig was entering the college after parking his vehicle on Kawari Road near Gowalmandi Chowk when two unknown armed motorcyclists opened firing at him. As a result, he received critical wounds and was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He received bullet wounds on his head and it is apparently an incident of target killing, a senior police officer told The Nation. He further said that mostly Punjabi speaking people were being targeted in the incidents of target killing. The deceased principal belonged to Chichawatni. Shortly after the incident, police and law enforcement agencies reached the site and cordoned off the area. However, attackers fled after committing crime. A large number of students and teachers reached hospital after hearing the news of principals murder and held a protest demonstration. They chanted anti-government slogans and demanded immediate arrest of accused persons. Police have registered a case and started investigation. No organisation has claimed the responsibility for the killing of principal. Prior to this incident, the principal of Khuzdar Resident College Khalid Mehmood Butt was shot dead in Khuzdar just one week ago and the Baloch Liberation Army had claimed the responsibility while in 2008 principal of Divisional College Ashiq Usman was also gunned down in Khuzdar.
