Candlelight vigil tribute to slain MQM MPA, workers


KARACHI - The MQM observed third day of mourning of the assassination of its MPA and workers by holding candlelight vigil with a slogan of “Peace for Karachi and Peace for Pakistan.”
MPA Sajid Qureshi and his son were shot dead outside a mosque in North Nazimabad on June 21. 
Scores of MQM workers and supporters including women and children gathered at the Mazar-e-Quaid, paying tribute to slain MQM lawmaker Sajid Qureshi and his son Engineer Waqas Qureshi.
Speaking on the occasion, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said it is need of the hour to formulate anti-terrorism policy and solid measures should be taken against terrorists.
Addressing the participants, MQM Coordination Committee member Haider Rizvi said that it’s now and never situation. Workers and citizen belonging to various schools of thoughts including civil society had gathered to express the view point that they would not support any act of terrorism in the country.
MQM Coordination Committee members, MPAs, MNAs, Senators, workers and people belonging to different fields of life paid tribute to the slain MQM workers.
Meanwhile, a murder case of Sajid Qureshi and his son has been registered after delay of two days.
According to detail, police have lodged FIR No. 158/13 under Sections 302/34 and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act against three unidentified persons on the complainant of deceased MPA’s brother, Zahid Qureshi, who is also the former MQM MPA.
Public welfare prime responsibility of Islamic welfare state:  Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Syed Munawwar Hassan has said that looking after the needy, deprived and less-privileged people is the core responsibility of an Islamic welfare state, but the government unfortunately is not disbursing its duties in this regard.
He said this while distributing 200 wheel chairs among the special children at a ceremony organised by Nusrat Trust here on Sunday. He said the private sector mostly carries out more welfare works as compared to the government, adding that Nusrat Trust has already done a lot in this regard. He eulogised the performance of Nusrat Trust chairman Mufti Muhammad Mohyuddin for the welfare works for the ailing community. He assured his full support to Nusrat Trust chairman and said his party would stand should to shoulder with the Trust.
The JI leader further said the private welfare organisations are efficiently working for welfare of the needy and less-privileged people, providing them basic necessities including education, health and medical. “It is an obligation of every Muslim to be a part of such welfare activities, as our religion and Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) taught us the same”, JI chief added.
Mufti Muhammad Mohyuddin, Maulana Dr Zahidur Rashdi, Prof Dr Ahsanul Haq were also spoke on the occasion.
JI leaders among Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, Naseem Siddiqui, Raja Arif Sultan, Zahid Askari, Abdul Wahid Shaikh and others were also present on the occasion.
