LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court Tuesday sought more arguments on the maintainability of petitions filed by 43 civil judges challenging restriction on them to sit in the exams for the posts of additional district and sessions judges. The court adjourned hearing until July 2.

The civil judges had taken a plea that their judicial service should be considered as equal to that of the legal practice of lawyers. They said that they were not given permission to sit in the exams and nor were promoted even after ten years of service.

On other hand, they said, the practicing lawyers were given fast promotions which was discrimination. They prayed to the court to set aside the restriction imposed on them and allow them sit in the exams equally with the practicing lawyers.–Staff Reporter
