Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad witnessed the clash between two departmental heavyweights, Omar Associates and Sui Southern Gas Company, in the Mezan Tea T20 Ramazan-ul-Mubarak Cup .

Both teams consisted of players that have represented Pakistan at an international level and current members as well. Omar Associates featuring Saad Nasim, Nauman Anwer, Anwar Ali and Muhammad Irfan. Whereas SSG had at their disposal the services of Babar Azam, Muhammad Aamir, Usama Mir and captain Umar Amin.

Omar Associates came out to bat first and took off from the first delivery of the match. Nauman Anwer continued his sublime form and targetted every bowler. Aamir looked a reflection of the bowler he once used to be and adopted a more aggressive approach. Partners changed at the other end, but Anwer continued to dominate.

He was joined by fellow Pakistan team-mate, Saad Nasim, smacked the balls out of the park. Anwer soon departed on 81, unable to score back-to-back centuries. Nasim was joined by Babar Hussain as the innings neared its end. At the end of the allocated 20 overs, Omar Associates had managed to pile up 177 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Sui Southern Gas came out to chase the target, but were met with strong resistance in the face of a returning Muhammad Irfan. Irfan troubled Arsalan Bashir in the first over with the extraordinary bounce he generated. Trying to relieve the pressure, captain Umar Amin hit three consecutive fours to Anwer Ali before getting deceived by a slower ball.

SSG witnessed a batting collapse as they were 5 wickets down for 39 runs. The match then took a miraculous turn in the faces of Tariq Haroon and Zafar Gohar. Both all-rounders remained cautious against the pacers, but hammered the spinners leaving Ashiq Ali, Faraz Ahmed and Saad Nasim with economy rates of over 10. The batsmen were taking the game away from the Omar Associates, but Zafar Gohar had to depart for 42 off just 23 deliveries.

The pair had managed to pile up a 97-run partnership for the sixth wicket, but with the departure of Gohar, hopes of winning too faded for SSG. Tariq Haroon could only watch the tail-enders get out on loose strokes one after another before getting run out himself due to excellent fielding by Anwar Ali.

Omar Associates won the match by 15 runs after captain Anwar Ali along with Ashiq Ali claimed three wickets each. Sui Southern Gas will be playing State Bank Pakistan in their next match. The loss to Omar Associates has made their next match a knockout one and they must win in order to book a place in the semi-finals.
