Rain: Boon for many, bane for some

LAHORE - Parts of the country including Lahore received rainfall of varying intensities on Tuesday, providing much-needed respite to the heat-hit people.
Cloudiness, strong winds and downpour caused considerable decrease in the mercury level, making weather pleasant.
However, three persons were killed and another 11 sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in different parts of the provincial metropolis.
A spokesperson for the Edhi ambulance service said a 28-year-old woman, Lubna Bibi, died of electric shocks as she touched an electric wire during rain outside her house in Baghbanpura.
Residents vent their rage against Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) and called for stern action against the negligent officials.
An eighteen-year-old boy, Muhammad Omar, was electrocuted in Manawan police precincts. Police investigators reached the spot soon after the incidents and later handed over the bodies to families.
In another incident, a 45-year-old woman was killed while her two relatives injured when the roof of their house collapsed on them in Manga Mandi.
Police said that Ishrat Bibi and her relatives Furqan and Jalal sustained serious injuries when the roof of a dilapidated house caved in during rain on Tuesday. Rescuers rushed to the spot after the incident and pulled out the victims from the debris. They were shifted to a nearby hospital where Ishrat Bibi succumbed to wounds. The condition of both the injured was said to be critical.
Also, four persons of a family were wounded seriously when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed on them amid downpour in Baghbanpura on Tuesday.
Rescue workers rushed to the spot soon after they were informed by locals about the accident in Shadipura. The rescuers immediately launched the operation and pulled out the injured after removing the debris. The injured were shifted to hospital. Police sources said the roof of Liaqat’s house caved in during heavy rain since the building was in dilapidated condition.
Meanwhile, two persons were injured when the boundary wall of a house collapsed on them in Hanjarwal during the downpour. Tariq and Zafar were admitted to hospital where their condition was reported to be out of danger.
Similarly, three persons were injured when signboards of a private company fell on them during thunderstorm at Multan Road. They were shifted to hospital with serious injuries.
