Islamabad - Unknown persons, believed to be a gang of criminals, on Monday night opened fire on two police constables who were returning home after duty on a motorbike on Islamabad Expressway in the limits of Koral police station.

Police sources said that the criminals opened fire on Constables Qaisar and Khurram Shehzad in Koral area in panic as they feared that the police constables were approaching them. Both were injured and admitted to the hospital.

However, police said the constables were injured in a bid to foil dacoity attempt in Sihala police area. According to a police spokesman, three armed persons stormed into house number 48 at DHA, Phase-II, and took away mobile, laptop, valuables and a vehicle from there. Following the information, police cordoned off the area and high alert was declared in the city. The police said two constables Qaisar and Khuram Shehzad in the meanwhile observed three suspects in the area of Koral and stopped them for checking but they opened fire on policemen. The police said the dacoits managed to escape from the scene after leaving valuables and vehicle there.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sajid Kiani has said that black sheep in police department will be shown door and only honesty and efficiency will be the distinction of Islamabad police. Taking serious notice of the incident about firing by a police constable on a person during a domestic dispute in sector G-9/2, he said that it is the duty of policemen to provide relief to people and those bringing bad name would not be tolerated in the force.

According to details, Rescue 15 police was called by a woman during her dispute with husband in sector G-9/2 a few days before. On her call, ATS Constable Fareed Anwer reached there and tried to exploit the situation. He promoted his relations with the woman and started living near her house. On Tuesday last, the cop again came to that house and had a brawl with the neighbours and woman’s husband. He entered the house and opened fire on Muhammad Khalid, husband of the woman, who luckily remained unhurt. SSP Islamabad took serious notice of this incident and ordered to arrest the police constable.

Meanwhile, the police spokesman has said that officials of SP rank in Islamabad Capital Territory Police will listen to public complaints on every Wednesday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at FM Radio 92.4. According to the spokesman, IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan has directed all police officials to present themselves for accountability and listen to public complaints with a purpose to improve their efficiency too. He said that officers of SP or above rank in Islamabad police will listen to complaints of people every Wednesday at Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) FM Radio 92.4 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.
