PESHAWAR - At least 40 Taliban militants from Bajaur have promised to bring a change in their lives and to give up militancy because of tremendous pressure of the traditional Jirga. As per details, a group of militants attacked a tribal elder at Chargo Keley of Salarzai area. However, the dwellers of the area arranged a spontaneous Lashkar and besieged the militants in a mosque. The tribal elders forced the militants to surrender their arms to the Jirga. But in the meantime, mediators from adjacent Chanar Keley rushed to the site. They pleaded for the release of the hostages. According to Jirga decision, all the 40 militants were administered oath for giving up the militancy. They also promised to remain peaceful in future and would not act against the tribal elders and other common people. It may be mentioned here that it was the first-ever kidnapping case, which had been foiled by the tribal elders and tribesmen in Bajaur.
