Gujrat - Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar has said that PPP and PML-N have decided to work together in the centre and Punjab, as Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has assured of the support of his party to the government. Talking to the newsmen here on Monday, Ahmed Mukhtar said the misunderstandings with the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has come to an end after the meeting between Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Nawaz Sharif. Commenting on the PML-Q, Ahmed Mukhtar said the Chaudhrys were playing a double game of using both Peoples Party and Muslim League-Nawaz to stage their comeback in Punjab but their dreams were crushed. He said neither Governor Punjab Salman Taseer was being changed nor the PML-N had made any demand for this purpose. Regarding the resignation of Mian Raza Rabbani, the defence minister was of the view that he tendered his resignation because chairmanship of Senate was not given to him. Responding to a question about Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman who has superseded his seniors, he said Qamar had led operations against terrorists in Northern Areas and he deserved the slot of air chief. He said the military establishment is out of politics and did not exert pressure for restoring the deposed judges. Rather, the prime minister and president played a key role in the restoration. Regarding the freedom of judiciary after the reinstatement of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, he said coming six months would reveal how much the judiciary is independent after the restoration.
