LAHORE Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Ms Farzana Raja has said that Rs 78 billion has been provided to the beneficiaries of the Programme across the country since October 2008 to date. The BISP with the cooperation of Word Bank was planning to link the programme with education from next year, she said while addressing a press conference at BISP Lahore Office here on Wednesday. We will give Rs 1,000 extra per school-going child to a family benefiting from the Programme. Besides providing monthly cash grant to beneficiary families, BISP, as a comprehensive social safety net, launched other initiatives i.e. Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar, life insurance and mobile phone banking, She said, adding 1,92,000 free mobile phones are being distributed among the beneficiary families in four districts of Pakistan including Larkana as the test phase of mobile phone banking. She said that from the total amount, Rs 70 billion was distributed directly among the beneficiaries, Rs 4.50 billion donated to the flood victims while the other amount was used in the programs of micro-financing, mobile phone banking and life insurance. She said the poverty survey has been almost completed in Balochistan, while it has been completed about 80 per cent in Punjab. She said the programme aimed at to include five to seven million families in beneficiaries list.
