ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday that March 23 is the day of renewal of pledge for making Pakistan stronger, prosperous and democratic besides achieving the goal of preserving our history and heritage. She was talking to media after inaugurating a photo exhibition organised by Directorate of Films and Publications (DFP), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting here at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA). Dr Firdous said that it was our responsibility to make our younger generation fully aware of the Ideology of Pakistan and the exhibition would serve this very purpose in befitting manner. The minister said that DFP has few occasions to exhibit its work and todays exhibition demonstrated their hard work. The minister said that she has directed the DFP to continue holding such exhibition throughout the year in collaboration with various universities with objective to promote our history, heritage and political history through pictures and films. She said unfortunately Pakistans distorted and negative image was being portrayed worldwide, which was unjustified. She said Pakistan is a peace loving nation and has achieved several landmarks in the recent past which are not highlighted properly. Our Armed forces as well as the people have rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism that is why March 23 was being celebrated as Day of Martyrs, she said. Firdous Ashiq Awan said marking the day should also reflect our responsibilities towards the country as in the civilized societies citizens as they on one hand enjoy the rights while on the other fulfil their responsibilities. To queries on the occasion, she said that on Pakistan Day the opposition parties should have evinced the spirit of unity by accepting the awards announced for the members of Parliamentary Committee for Constitutional Reforms. Unfortunately some political parties hold their political gains above the national interests by refusing to attend the ceremony, she said.
