LAHORE Four Sub-Inspectors (SIs) including an SHO of the City Police have been found guilty in a fake case, which they lodged against a citizen to mint money, said the official documents. Civil Lines Police Division SP (Investigation) Cap (r) Liaqat Ali Malik has recommended the DIG (investigation) for strict punitive action against the guilty police officers including a major punishment of dismissal. The negligent police officers include SI Anwar Sultan, Police Station Defence Area, Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Station SHO SI Majid Bashir, SI Muhammad Akbar, Police Station Defence B and SI (investigation) Muhammad Sarwar, Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Station. The inquiry report said an FIR (1289/06) under Section 489-F was registered against Shahid Mehmood, son of Latif, at Defence Police Station some four years back on the statement of a woman Chanda Abdul Rauf, resident of Shahdara Town. The case was filed in the court of Justice Haider Ali Khan MS/30 where the accused was sent to jail for three years and fined Rs 45,000, the report says. However, after his release the investigation officer Anwar Sultan did not attach original check with the case giving a legal way to the victim party to register another case against the accused on the same charges. According to report, another case (930/10) under Section 489-F was lodged against Shahid Mehmood on the statement of Qaiser Sana Ullah, brother-in-law of Chanda Abdul Rauf, on August 17, 2010 at Qilla Gujjar Singh police station. The official documents further said, SI Muhammad Sarwar in connivance with SI Muhammad Akbar arrested the accused illegally despite he had shown them the entire original documents of the past case. The officers, for their vested interests, produced the accused before the court but the District and Sessions Judge ordered to cancel the FIR. SHO Majid Bashir showed major professional negligence as neither he had conducted an inquiry nor he put the issue into the notice of DSP/SDPO concerned. The aforementioned police officers not only showed professional negligence but also mishandled the victim in a quite inhuman manner. After conducting the inquiry, SP Liaqat Ali Malik recommended the DIG (investigation) that a strict disciplinary action should be taken against the guilty officers. It is recommended that SI Muhammad Sarwar should be dismissed from the service while a punitive action be initiated against the SI Muhammad Sarwar, SI Majid Bashir and SI Anwar Sultan on the charges of showing acute negligence while discharging their professional duties, he added. Meanwhile, SP Investigation Liaqat Ali Malik has issued show-cause notices to six police officers of Racecourse police station on showing poor performance in connection with investigation of different cases. Inspector Imran Yaseen, SI Zahid Saleem, SI Abdul Sattar, SI Muhammad Iqbal, ASI Muhammad Younus and ASI Sabir Hussain have been issued notices on the aforesaid charges, a top police source said. Further investigations are underway.
