KARACHI A large number of lady health workers (LHWs) on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest against Health Department of Sindh for not accomplishing its promise regarding their regularisation. The scores of protestors attended the protest organised by All Pakistan Lady Health Worker Employees Association (APLHWEA) at Karachi Press Club. The participants carrying placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands and also raised slogans against Government of Sindh and health department officials. They alleged that National Health Programme for lady health workers was badly affected owing to non -cooperative behaviour of the health department and concerned authorities. They said that the (LHW) programme is culmination of the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in 1994 to empower the women of Pakistan They demanded to President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of Pakistan to give the permanent status to the contractual employees, having experiences of even 15 to 17 years and regularized all of them. They added that more than 0.1 million lady workers in Pakistan and Sindh some 25,000 lady heath workers associated with the national programmes, working for human betterment. They demanded government to provide their salaries on time and make their payment on regular bases and immediate issue the allowances of lady health workers. They added that the authorities misusing the funds for their fruitless activities and spending on their luxuries but the poor women remain not getting their salaries on time.
