MQM man among 8 dead in Karachi

KARACHI - An activist of MQM was among eight shot dead here on Wednesday. The activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was shot dead in front of his house near Mehfooz Sheermal House within the limits of Garden police station. The victim, Mohammad Ali, 25, son of Abdul Jabbar, resident of Waseem Terrace was targeted near Mehfooz Sheermal Garden. Police said he was standing outside his apartment when two armed men sprayed bullets on him. Scores of MQM workers rushed to hospital on being informed, and they chanted slogans against the failure of law and order agencies and the home minister. Following the killing, tension gripped the area including Ranchore Line, Pan Mandi, Jodia Bazaar where all shops and market were closed. No case was registered till filing of this report. In another incident, unknown gunmen open fire on a passenger bus, killing one near Walika Chowrangi in the limits of SITE-A police station. Rashid, son of Riaz, had a bullet to his head and died on the spot. Separately, Saleem Akhter, 26, was killed on Shah Waliullah Road within the remits of Baghdadi police station. Police said that the victim was resident of Orangi Town area. A driver of the trawler was killed while at least four others including a personnel of a law enforcement agency were injured in a firing incident on Ayesha Manzil within the limits of Gulberg police station. The deceased was identified as Abdul Qadeer, 40, and the injured included Sain Kalado, Lal Hussain and Abdul Hafeez. A watchman was shot dead in Malir Tanki Market in jurisdiction of Saudabad police station. Ghulam Wali, 45, son of Faqeer Mohammad was on his duty in Malir Tanki Market in Malir area when unidentified armed men targeted him. Also, a man was gunned down while another injure in Ayub Goth within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. The victim has been identified as Ghulam Hyder, son of Imam Bux, resident of Ayub Goth. A young man was gunned down near his house near Memon Mosque Hussain Abad in precincts of Azizabad police station. The victim Shahzad Memon alias Bhayya, 25, son of Rehmat Ullah was sitting near his house in block 3 Azizabad when unidentified armed men targeted him. Police found a bullets-riddled body of a man in bushes near Gabol Goth in the limits of Gaddap City police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained. SHO Raja Aslam said victim received two bullets, one in his head and other in his chest, adding that police also received two empty shells of 30 bore pistols form the scene.
