ISLAMABAD - The maestro Afridi has played the trick for Pakistan as was predicted and hoped. He is a big match player, he proved and further enhanced his reputation. Taking the key wickets of Sarwan, Pollard and Thomson at the crucial stage of the game, he throughout the match didn't allow West Indies to have any chance of making a comeback. Umer Gul as ever bowled with sheer pace and line length and grabbed the key scalp of Gayle. Muhammad Hafeez also as second attack bowler not only bowled with perfect line but also took two wickets in his quota of 10 overs. The ground fielding was a treat to watch as every one was eager to make some kind of contribution. Wahab Riaz was the only weak link in Pakistan bowling as he has yet to find any momentum after playing three matches. He was bowling both sides to batsmen thus providing them to make easy runs of his bowling. Kamran Akmal once again missed the most important stumping chance of Chanderpaul. Had he managed to avail that opportunity West Indies could have fallen to their worst ever the World Cup total. Umer Gul also dropped a relatively easy catch of Sarwan, but Pakistan managed to get him without any major damage. The captaincy of Afridi in this particular match was right up to the mark. He had done exactly what the doctor had ordered for the day. The roads of Rawalpindi-Islamabad where hardly a pin can be dropped on roads were giving a complete deserted look as people were glued to their TV screens seeing the match. Saeed Ajmal has proved his selection right by bowling with complete authority and control and also picking up two important wickets. One thing which Afridi could have done that he should try to bowl out the opposition, he could have hit the jackpot by introducing himself and Saeed Ajmal to wrap up the shattering West Indies innings as early as possible. This would also restrict the West Indies total. It is a major problem with Pakistan they don't go all out for the kill when ever they manage to restrict the opposition. The body language of the players starts changing and they just begin to relax, which is not a wise thing to do. Abdul Razzaq was introduced in bowling a bit too late, but like in the past he manages to make immediate impact by claiming the wicket of Kemar Roach. Razzaq has not let his team and captain down whenever he was asked to bowl. He is a great asset to the side, both with willow and leather. Against the Australians when the team had needed him he did the job with ball first and then with the bat. The bowlers had completely destroyed the West Indies batting. Shahid Afridi has for the fourth time in his World Cup managed to take four wickets, a feat no once so far has managed to do. All the bowlers except Wahab Riaz were at target. The bowlers had done what they were supposed to do. Now it was batsmen's turn to complete the job and take their team to the semi-final. It was a tremendous performance by Pakistan led by their inspirational captain Shahid Khan Afridi. The Boom Boom Afridi has lived to his reputation and led the side from the front as far as bowling is concerned. He must now perform with the willow if needed which would really put the icing on the cake. Although every bowler bowled well but it was Shahid Afridi who stole the limelight from others with his outstanding solo performance. This date is also of great significance to Pakistan history as on this date in 1940 Pakistan resolution was passed. The team provided a perfect gift on this special day to the entire nation. Chasing a modest total of 113 runs for victory, the Pakistan reply started in a great fashion as both openers Muhammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal guided the team towards victory without being separated. The Pakistan opening clicked at the right time and not only the openers provided first 100 runs stand of the World Cup but also this was Pakistan's first ever 10-wicket victory over West Indies, a feat which Pakistan had never achieved before against any opposition. Now the team have reached the semi-final of the World Cup in style and also gave a strong warning to others that Pakistan is almost at their peak. This kind of performance is required to be maintained in the semi-final too. The prayers of 180 million Pakistanis had brought this success and the players had not let them down by playing exceptionally well against the West Indies. This victory was possible due to a truly combined team performance. Shahid Afridi was the outstanding player of this match and the team need him to take this momentum first to the semi-final and then to the final and make history of being only the second captain in the country's history to win a World Cup; this is very much possible. The destiny of Pakistan lies purely in their own hands. With the backing of entire nation and the Grace of God Pakistan is all set to repeat his feat once again.
