JUI-F protests Quranic verses exclusion from textbooks

LAKKI MARWAT - The workers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl took out a protest rally in Naurang on Friday against the government for excluding Quranic verses from textbooks.
Led by JUI-F district, General Secretary, Maulana Bashir Ahmad Haqqani and Naurang chapter Chief Mufti Ziaullah, the rally started from Majeedi Mosque in Naurang city. After passing through different bazaars, it turned into a gathering at old railway crossing (Phattak). The protesters raised slogans against the government.
The JUI leaders said that removal of Quranic verses from the course was aimed at depriving students of Islamic education. “It is a conspiracy to keep the youth far from Islamic teachings,” they said, adding that the government changed the course of Islamic Studies to please the United States and Western powers.
They said that exclusion of Quranic verses and Hadiths from curriculum was not acceptable to the people and they would not allow the government to implemen secular policies. “The amendments in the syllabus of Islamic education is a part of the govt’s anti-Islam polices,” they alleged, demanding of the govt to withdraw its decision and restore Quranic verses and Hadiths in the syllabus of Islamic Education. They also demanded of Education Department to cancel the transfer orders of Abdul Qadoos, an Arabic teacher of Government Higher Secondary School, Naurang.
