Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Governor Chaudhry Barjees Tahir declared on Monday that the governor was just a representative of the federal government who, otherwise, had no role in elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Talking to a newsmenhere, he said that an additional responsibility was given to him by the Prime Minister in the form of Governorship of GB and he was making all-out efforts to discharge this responsibility in better way. Barjees said he had welcomed the criticism from opposition over his appointment as it was its bounden duty to criticise the government on different issues for national prosperity.

The PML-N, he said, had respected the mandate of different political parties and gave them an opportunity to govern in their respective provinces and deliver to the masses. The GB governor said that different projects were being launched in Gilgit-Baltistan which included development, power and health projects. “Merit will be ensured in Gilgit-Baltistan and corruption will not be tolerated,” he underlined.
