SANGLA HILL - The government should stop economic murder of the farmers as ill-conceived policies of the incumbent rulers have dealt a severe blow to the agriculture sector so far.

Senior PML-Q leader Advocate Ch Arsalan Chattha stated this while addressing party workers here the other day.

He recalled that the PML-Q during its government in Punjab had taken revolutionary measures to facilitate the farmers including cheap electricity, fertilizers, seed, loans and tax exemption which were abolished by the Nawaz govt. He warned against the impending wheat crisis, saying that the farmers would not be able to get full price of their harvest in the upcoming season due to wrong policies of the rulers, adding that power rate for agriculture sector had been raised many times in Punjab than any other provinces. He stated that those who had voted for the N-League were not only treated with lathis but also sent to jails.  Mr Chattha informed that anti-farmers policies of the Nawaz-led government had become intolerable.

“Last year, the government had promised to procure 3 million tonnes of wheat but could only procured two million tonnes which was lying in the warehouses,” he pointed out, adding that under the circumstances the wheat support price did not seem to be higher than Rs900 which would be a severe blow to the farmers.

He regretted that the PML-N government seemed to have been hell-bent on destroying the sector which was the backbone of the national economy.

He urged the government to revisit its anti-farmers policies and envisaged measures that could boost the agriculture sector to bring prosperity for the farmers and ultimately the country.
