139 kg of hashish smuggled from Afghanistan seized at Torkham

BARA: Authorities at Torkham border foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of hashish from Afghanistan and arrested two persons, official said today.

Khyber Agency political Agent, Khalid Mehmood, told The Nation by phone that on a tip-off, a raiding team was constituted and stopped long trailer truck bearing Afghan registration number (17944-Hira) at Torkham border. Khalid said the truck was loaded with coal transported from Afghanistan to Pakistan. He said during checking they recovered 139 kilograms of hashish packed in plastic bags and concealed under the coal.

The official said two drug traffickers, identified as Imran, resident of Peshawar and Rehman of Afghanistan were arrested. The arrested persons and trucked were sent to Landikotal lock up for further investigation, the official added.
