MOSCOW: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Qazi Khalilullah confirmed last night that Russian security agencies have stopped around 188 Pakistanis at Moscow airport and detained them for over 18 hours.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Qazi Khalilullah said the embassy was made aware of the stranded Pakistanis at around 8:00 p.m last night, adding “We have raised the issue with Russian Foreign Ministry at the same time.”

According to details, over 188 Pakistani businessmen arrived here to attend annual convention, out of which 80 are from Karachi, 35 from Lahore and remaining from Islamabad.

Traders from different electronic markets of Pakistan went to Russia on a business tour. They were prohibited to leave the airport premises despite their comprehensive legal documents. Trader Abdul Mughees said the Russian Embassy had failed to dispatch visa details to Moscow because of which they are facing problems. Sources said the Pakistani businessmen have been kept in a room at the airport without food and water.

The ambassador guaranteed to extend all support to them.
