PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Haji Qalandar Khan Lodhi has said the provincial government will procure 3,50,000 tonnes of wheat to meet the food requirements of its people.
He disclosed this while chairing a meeting of the Working Group for Food Department, KP, held at his office on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Food Asmatullah Khan Gandapur, Director General Agriculture Department Iqbal Hussain, members of the Working Group and officers of the department concerned.
Procurement of wheat, wheat policy, 2016, Insaf Food, Food Security Programme, setting up food godowns on the railway tracks were the matters discussed in the meeting, and the participants gave some viable proposals and also took decisions in this regard.
The meeting was told that as per the target fixed by the federal government, 3,50,000 tonnes of wheat was expected in KP at Rs 1,300/per 40 kg this year.
It was also disclosed that the government would purchase 50 percent yield from the growers of seeds, provided to them under the Insaf Food Security Programme.
Secretary Food Asmatullah Khan Gandapur briefed the meeting on procurement of wheat in the province and directed officers concerned to adopt transparent strategy in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, the provincial minister said that various committees and monitoring teams had been constituted at provincial and district levels to make wheat procurement transparent, adding that no compromise would be made over the quality of wheat.
