LAHORE - Speakers at a seminar organised by Jamaat-e-Islami yesterday termed corruption as the biggest problem in the country that has plagued every walk of life.

They described the present rulers as a threat to the ideological and geographical borders of the country.

The seminar, titled as “Corruption Free Pakistan”, was presided over by JI chief Sirajul Haq and was addressed by Jamaat al Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, Dr Shahid Siddiqui, Qayyum Nizami, ex-DG NAB Khyber Pakhtukhwa Brig (retd) Aslam Ghumman and TV anchor Mubashir Luqman.

The speakers maintained that in order to protect the country from the problems of anarchy, poverty, inflation, illiteracy, lawlessness and terrorism, corruption in all forms must be weeded out.

Sirajul Haq alleged that some secular elements enjoying the patronage of the rulers were conspiring to destroy the ideological foundations of the country. “There are plans to put forth another resolution in place of the Pakistan Resolution and the Constitution, in order to destroy the national harmony and plunge the country into turmoil and anarchy,” the senator believed.

The JI chief said that the ideological corruption led to the separation of Pakistan in 1971, and the hostile agents were once again trying to play with the existence of the country. “Every Pakistani is demanding for corruption free Pakistan,” he added.

He blamed the PPP and the ruling PML-N for the prevailing plight of Pakistan International Airline.

Commenting on Pervez Musharaf’s escape from the country, the JI chief said that the former dictator’s ailment was only a pretext to save his skin. He further said that the court too had their double standards.

Praising the JI’s movement against corruption, Hafiz Saeed stated the nation would never tolerate ‘ideological corruption’.

Hafiz Saeed said that the biggest corruption was that the goal, for which this country was secured, was not fulfilled. “The political, education and economic systems of the country today are the same as were left by the British,” he held.

The JuD chief fully endorsed the JI’s anti-corruption campaign, also urging the masses to fully support the movement.
