MIRPURKHAS  - Three persons of village Bilaro Shakh, taluka Shujaabad were killed after consuming poisonous liquor here.

Police said the villagers of Bheel caste went to a marriage ceremony at Tando Haider, district Hyderabad where they consume liquor. Suddenly their condition deteriorated and they died on the way to Rural Health Centre Mirwah Gorchani.

Those killed were identified as Soomje, Jummo and Gangaram. All of them belonged to Bheel caste. Following the deaths of dozens of people with poisonous liquor in Tando Muhammad Khan and Mirpurkhas, SSP Mirpurkhas has taken strict notice against the sale of narcotics, liquor and unhealthy Gutka.

Mirpurkhas police, in a crackdown, arrested 11 drug peddlers and recovered sizable quantity of narcotics from their possession. Police have apprehended the drug peddlers including Bachal, Haneef Nohani, Dawood Sheedi, Khair Muhammad, Ghulam Mustafa, Jay Ram Kolhi, Amar Kolhi, Narsingh Kolhi and Jewo Kolhi, Ratan and Hero Bheel. It recovered 1,500 litres of liquor, 800 Gutka packets and various instruments of preparing liquor. Police have intensified action against the sale of narcotics in the district. Meanwhile, four houses of the peasants were completely gutted in village Salam Halepota, taluka Sindhri. Fire broke out suddenly in a hut which engulfed the houses. Four houses of the peasants were completely burnt to ashes while stocks of wheat, seeds, ornaments and house articles were also burnt to ashes. On the other hand, unknown thieves took away a transformer installed at an electricity pole in the premises of Labour division Mirpurkhas office, sources told to this scribe. Employees of district highway department told that there was already guard present there but during night, some unknown thieves took away the 20KV power transformer and its copper wiring.

XEN district highway division Mirpurkhas, Pervez Akhtar said suddenly the transformer was missing from the pole while other staffers said it was the work of an unknown expert of electricity.

However, the officials of the building department arrived to the spot and examined the site. It may be recalled that it was the only new transformer installed in the newly-constructed Labour division Mirpurkhas office and the adjacent newly-constructed building of district highway division Mirpurkhas.

Meanwhile, hundreds of PPP women workers and office bearers of ladies wing district Mirpurkhas took out protest rally and held demonstration against allowing ex-general Pervez Musharraf to go abroad despite registration of cases against him.

Led by Azmina Nazeer Chandio and former MPA Shamim Aara Panhwer, the protesters were carrying banners and placards.

They raised slogans against Pevez Musharraf and Go Nawaz Go. They marched through the local party office to the local press club where they burnt the effigy of Musharraf. Azmina Nazeer Chandio alleged that federal government had allowed Musharraf to go abroad despite the fact that there are different cases registered against him. He went under a secret deal with the federal government, she said.

She lamented that honest local MNA Mir Munawar Ali Khan Talpur had given great services to the downtrodden people of his constituency but he was implicated in false and fabricated cases by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Federal government is victimising the PPP leadership through the NAB. Shamim Aara Panhwer alleged that federal government will be responsible if Musharraf did not return.

She expressed concern over the victimisation of the PPP leadership. Shamim Jhandeer, Sumera Baloch, Fatima Baloch and others also spoke on the occasion.
