The spirit of 2005

When a huge earthquake struck Azad Kashmir and parts of our Frontier province in 2005, the entire nation acted as one and contributed money, items of daily use, time, effort and professional expertise to alleviate sufferings of the affected people. People of Pakistani-origin came from all over the world to provide financial and professional help to the victims of natural disaster. We now have a man-made disaster, created due to the so-called Taliban in Swat, Dir, Buner and other areas of the Frontier. Hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, children and women being the most vulnerable among them, walked long distances to camps. They need our help - money, items of daily use and professional medical help. Pakistanis, wherever they may be, need to rekindle the spirit of 2005 to help these suffering people. -M.
