Accountant's role vital for economic activities

KARACHI - State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Syed Salim Raza has said the accountants can play a greater role to achieve revitalisation of economic activities as per objectives set by the government. Participation in financial and managerial re-engineering of operationally sick units, participation in the process of privatisation of nationalised units and finally guiding government in rationalising tariff and tax structure regime in order to attain optimal benefits, he added. He was speaking at the inaugural session of the 58th Management Accountants Day event tilted Journey of Excellence organised by the Karachi Branch Council (KBC) of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP at ICMP premises here on Saturday. The SBP governor said that he was pleased to learn that ICMA Pakistan is working multi-dimensional phase and maintaining high standard in professional education and examination since its establishment and possess a high status. It is working in 14 major cities of Pakistan and providing competent scholars and professionals in the Management Accountancy. Day by day its glory and height is lighten up by the continuous improvement in education according to need of national and global business and keeping its members to face any competitive force in this highly competitive global business environment He commemorated that Muhammad Shoaib, former Federal Minister of Finance and founder President of ICMA who after establishing Institute of Cost and Works Accountants in British-India in 1941, felt the need for a similar Institute in the newly born Country, Pakistan. It was due to his quest for excellence, love for professionalism, strong commitment to his mission, innovative vision and untiring efforts that the Institute grew into a strong entity.
