ISLAMABAD- Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has given full concession of fee and transportation charges for the two children of its employees. Teachers however have been deprived of such concessions. According to a circular issued on April 27 two children of each employee of the FDE in Federal Government Schools and Islamabad Model Colleges studying from primary to degree level will be granted exemption from payment of fees and transportation charges. Whereas the question of providing free education to teachers children studying in various schools has never come under consideration of the directorate, TheNation has learnt reliably. However, Education up to class XII is free for all children of FG schoolteachers in their own schools and two children of the FG schoolteachers are allowed fee concession in classes I to XII in Model Colleges. There is no such rule for the teachers of Model schools regarding fee concession for their children and exemption of transport charges. Even teachers themselves are not given transportation facility free of cost and charges are deducted from their salaries, said a teacher of Model School. Male teachers can somehow arrange some transport or can use motorcycle but at least female teachers should be granted transportation facility, he further added. Schoolteachers are already underpaid. They are not given transportation facility and nearly Rs 500 are ducted from their salaries if they use school transport. Earlier, parents were paying in terms of transportation monthly charges Rs 250 which were increased up to Rs 500 but on the protest of parents it was fixed up to Rs 350. At primary level almost Rs 400 is a monthly fee in Model Colleges while up to class X parents pay Rs 500 monthly.
