Six weeks...if PPP is still in govt

There is this very loud character, a Senator Faisal Raza Abidi of the PPP who often appears on various television channels to vociferously defend his party and President Zardari. He often gets emotional to the point of stupidity. Though I do not agree with what he says and the way he says it, I certainly appreciate his sense of devotion and commitment to Mr Zardari. He is a typical example of the 'more loyal than the king' types. About two months back in a talk show he had claimed with typical vehemence that the killers of Benazir Bhutto will be arrested within six weeks. "Every one of you will see the killers of Mohtarma Benazir Shaheed arrested, you will see them hand-cuffed on TV", he said on God knows what authority. Two months have passed since and we are yet to see 'them handcuffed'. To carry this joke further now, the Senator loud-mouth had recently appeared again in yet another talk show on May 21 and lo and behold, he says the same thing once again. "BB's killers will be arrested within six weeks". I think Senator Abidi's six weeks are something like the ninety days of General Zia-ul-Haq. When he imposed martial law, in his very first speech he told people of Pakistan that he will hold free and fair elections within ninety days. Eleven years later he died with out holding any elections although he had, mind you, once again promised to hold elections within ninety days ---only days before he died. -NAUSHIRWAN RUSTAMJI, Karachi, May 23.
