All-out efforts to control power outage: Pepco

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Managing Director of Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Tahir Basharat Cheema said on Sunday the managements of rental power plants have been directed to expedite the commissioning of their plants in order to control the problem of power shortage within the shortest time. Talking to a private TV channel, he said commissioning of 62 MW Gulf rental power plant located at Aiminabad, Gujranawala Industrial Area will help control power voltage problem, particularly for the industry. He said the 'Gulf Power company has installed and commissioned the plant. This is the first rental power plant, out of a total of eight approved by the government to help meet the growing needs of power supply across the country. He said power generated from the first rental power plant would be added to the national grid which would be further supplied to the industrial area of Gujranwala region. To a question he said PEPCO would continue to make all-out efforts to provide best services to the people and exploit all available resources for generating more power in the country. The MD said with the passage of time, more rental plants would be added gradually to ensure uninterrupted smooth power supply to all areas. Basharat Cheema said the government attached great importance to the provision of power to all areas throughout the country and billions of rupees have been allocated for power generation which is on top priority. To a question he said in addition to rental power plants, several other IPPs would be generating power before June. To another question he dispelled the perception that loadshedding for long hours was being observed. Presently the duration of power outage in cities was four to six hours while in rural areas it was adjusted according to the demand and supply gap.But, as compared to the situation of last year, the industry was being provided constant and uninterrupted power supply, he added.
