LAHORE A sensitive agency report on the current political crisis has suggested the government to remove Interior Minister Rehman Malik from his office in the context of controversial political scenario that emerged after the restoration of his sentence and presidential pardon. Well-placed sources privy to the report told this scribe on Sunday that the federal government has asked one of its sensitive agencies to suggest ways to bail out the government from the crisis, which triggered controversy with respect to Rehman Malik and other beneficiaries of defunct NRO. The sources concerned pointed out that the sensitive agency conducted a survey and after going through various field reports, it recommended to the federal government to remove Rehman Malik from his office. The report also recommended the sidelining of Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan for the time being, as the political temperature was increasing by every passing day and it was the need of the hour to take some measures on part of the government to pacify the public. The report further suggested to the government to woo veteran PPP leader Ch Aitzaz Ahsan for becoming the lead counsel of President Asif Ali Zardaris immunity matter in case the latters immunity was discussed at any stage. The report also underscored the need for restraining the party leaders at all levels from making critical statements against the judiciary in a bid to let the tempers cool. It is to be mentioned here that Rehman Maliks sentence was restored after the Supreme Court invalidated the NRO null and void, however, when Malik filed an appeal in Lahore High Court (LHC) on the plea that he was sentenced in absentia, the apex court allowed him stay and admitted his appeal. Later when LHC, disposing off his appeal, restored his sentence President Asif Zardari, exercising his discretionary powers, granted him pardon.
